Rain or Shine: Investing in Youth, Community, and Fields That Last
Rain delays and packed schedules haven’t stopped the Barren County Parks and Rec team from doing everything possible to give our kids a place to play. In the latest episode of County Talk, Judge Executive Jamie Byrd sits down with Parks and Rec Director Chris Jennings for an honest conversation about the challenges—and triumphs—at Jackie Browning Park.
For three seasons in a row, Mother Nature has been less than cooperative. But thanks to smart field maintenance, drainage upgrades, and non-stop effort (sometimes working until 2:00 a.m.), Chris and his team are doing everything possible to keep the season moving forward. And when games are canceled, it’s never taken lightly—because each canceled night means a dozen reschedules.
Still, there’s plenty to celebrate. On May 19 at 4:30 PM, Barren County is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony to honor major renovations at Jackie Browning Park, including new fields, restrooms, a playground structure, lighted parking, and more. It’s a community-wide celebration that honors the past and looks ahead to a stronger future.
